Are there specific deep breathing exercises I can do to reduce my stress level?

Yes, there are several deep breathing exercises that can help with stress relief. Here are a couple of examples:

The 4-7-8 breathing technique:

  • Exhale completely through your mouth

  • Close your mouth and inhale quietly through your nose to a mental count of four

  • Hold your breath for a count of seven

  • Exhale completely through your mouth to a count of eight

  • This completes one breath. Repeat the cycle three more times for a total of four breaths

Diaphragmatic breathing:

  • Place one hand on your stomach and the other on your chest

  • Breathe in deeply through your nose, allowing your stomach to expand

  • Exhale slowly through your mouth, allowing your stomach to contract

  • Repeat these steps 3 or more times

It is important to find a comfortable and relaxed position when practicing deep breathing exercises. Also make sure that you are not straining or forcing your breath.
